The quick answer
If checked baggage is missing at MBJ, ask your airline or its baggage-service representative how to report it before leaving the airport. Keep your bag tag and any report reference. Tell your booked transport provider that you have arrived but are still dealing with a baggage report, then ask them to confirm pickup and waiting arrangements. A driver message does not replace the airline report, and flight tracking does not guarantee free waiting.
Report missing baggage to your airline
A slow baggage belt is not the same as a suitcase confirmed missing from your flight. Check the flight information for your collection belt and ask the airline’s baggage representative if your bag has not arrived. Follow that airline’s current reporting procedure before leaving MBJ. American Airlines tells international passengers to report delayed bags before leaving the airport; Delta directs passengers to its baggage service and says to save the report reference. Keep your boarding information, bag-tag receipt and the reference you receive. Do not assume every airline uses the same form, desk or digital process. A personal item left somewhere in the terminal is a different situation from checked baggage that did not arrive.
Coordinate your airport pickup
As soon as you know the baggage issue may hold you up, contact the provider in your actual transfer confirmation. State the booking reference, arriving flight and local arrival date, and explain that you are still inside dealing with a missing-bag report. A useful message is: “I have landed at MBJ. My suitcase has not arrived and I am reporting it to the airline. Please confirm our pickup and the waiting arrangements.” Add your accommodation if needed. Ask for an acknowledgement; do not treat an unanswered message as an agreed extension. Confirm when included waiting starts, what happens after it ends and whether extra charges or a revised pickup apply. Do not promise an exit time you cannot verify.
Arrange baggage delivery separately
Ask the airline what happens after the report: how to track progress, how you will be contacted and what delivery or collection arrangements apply. Give the exact hotel or villa name, address, reachable contact and relevant stay dates. For a villa, check which entrance or host contact the airline’s delivery team needs rather than relying only on a listing name. If you change accommodation, update the airline separately; changing your transfer details does not update the baggage report. Delivery conditions and timing depend on the airline and circumstances. Do not assume every address is served or that a suitcase will arrive the same day. Your airport-to-hotel driver is not automatically a baggage courier.
Before leaving MBJ: final checks
Before continuing to the public arrivals area, make sure you have completed the airline’s reporting steps and understand its next instructions. Save the reference and contacts privately, including an offline copy. Complete all required airport formalities; do not leave a required process unfinished to catch the car. Confirm with your transport provider where and when to meet, and notify them when you are ready. Follow your own booking instructions rather than another company’s desk number. Verify any changed transport offer through your confirmed contact before accepting it. A journey to Negril or Ocho Rios may continue without the missing bag once the relevant procedures and your onward arrangements are settled; that does not guarantee later delivery or include a return trip to the airport.
Questions about missing baggage and MBJ transfers
Will my driver wait while I report my missing bag?
Only your confirmed provider can agree that. A flight delay and time spent filing a baggage report may be treated differently. Contact the provider promptly and ask for confirmation of continued waiting, any charge and the revised meeting plan. Do not assume unlimited free waiting or automatic updates from the airline.
Can my driver collect my suitcase later?
Do not assume this is part of the transfer. Ask the airline about its authorized delivery or collection process. A separate airport journey, any permission needed and any handling of unaccompanied baggage would require specific arrangements. MBJ Airport Transfer does not offer a baggage-recovery or courier service through this article.

- Finish airport formalities and tell your confirmed provider when you are ready.
